Sainik Schools in India
Sainik Schools are public sector schools established in India to improve the quality of education offered by government-funded schools. They were set up under the Sainik School Society, founded in 1962 by India's Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. to provide quality education from class VI to class XII in rural areas and also to provide free boarding and lodging facilities for students from weaker sections of society. Originally, there were only three schools: one each at Anandpur in Punjab, Bijapur in Karnataka, and Valiamala in Kerala. Presently there are thirty-one more Sainik Schools spread over different parts of the country. As per survey done by schools in India , Sainik Schools are highly competitive, elite schools that are run and funded by the Ministry of Defense (Government of India).
