How do boys and girls behave in a non-coed school compared with a coed school?

Image
There is obviously a difference in the way  boys and girls behave in non co-ed schools and coed schools in India . I will be exploring various aspects and situations  through this answer  In a single gender school the students don't need to adjust and accommodate needs of the other gender. Often they are met with stereotypes in co-ed schools which leads to a lack of confidence or even conditions them into some roles. They often fit into the "role" of being a girl/boy and find themselves trying to fit into the preexisting structure. In a single gendered school students  get to explore themselves more and truly discover their abilities without being hindered by social structures. They also find it easier to experiment and step out of comfort zones: Being in the presence of the other sex may lead to hesitation or can be uncomforting for teenagers. This leads to them not outwardly presenting their interests or skills due to fear of judgement. For example a lot of girls don

What are your thoughts on the few co-ed schools in India which don't allow boys and girls to interact with each other?

Image
I think these people need to take their heads out of wherever they have put them and look at the world around them. This is an obsolete and regressive practice, students should be able to express how they feel and interact with each other. Such a practice has serious ramifications; I have had so many friends in college who attended schools who restricted conversations between boys and girls, these friends had serious issues in talking to boys in the college. It took them a lot of time to grow out of this. This could have seriously harmed them in their occupation.  Such schools also ingrain misconceptions about the other gender in students which are carried forward. Co-ed schools in India have developed after looking at the problems that single-gendered schools were leading. In co-ed schools both boys and girls share classes and take part in school activities side by side. They may even discover they're more alike than they thought.  It's proven that a co-ed education offers ma

What are the top skills required to sustain in today’s industry?

Image
Communication As per survey done by students of top schools in India , communication skills are among the top skills required to sustain in today’s industry.  This concept is not new of course; in recent times companies and society are focusing more and more on getting their employees better and updated with the change and development so that they can perform much better. Thus, organizations are encouraging their people to learn more especially communication skills which will help them in the long run. It has always been a crucial skill for succeeding in an industry. This is something that many people have no issue with and it's not something that you can decrease in importance if you're a top performer. It's one of the most important skills, if not the most important skill when it comes to any industry. For example, communication is needed for a business owner to run their company smoothly and efficiently. They need to be able to communicate with their employees to make

Art Therapy In Schools

Image
Art Therapy is a new way to deal with stress and anxiety issues. The art teacher at my school got funding to get art materials and started a program in my school. We were very lucky that we had an art class, but some schools in India don't have the funding so they don't have an art class or any way of getting these materials. Art teachers should be able to use art therapy because it is a good way to help people express their feelings, reactions, etc. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the creative process of art-making to improve one's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Although it is based in art, this is not merely an art class; it is a therapeutic intervention. It was developed by psychotherapist Alyce Corlett in the 1960s when she realized that her patients were more willing to openly share their feelings when they were creating rather than talking. Art therapy has been used to treat a wide variety of disorders, including but not limited to: Anxie

Sex Education: Meaning And Importance

Image
Sex education is important to be able to live a healthy life. If everyone is educated about sex, the number of unplanned pregnancies and the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections can be reduced. The role of the sex educator is to give young people information on topics they need to know to deal with their sexuality. There are many aspects of sex that can be discussed within the realm of sex education. Some of these include abstinence, birth control, STIs, sexual orientation, and gender identity. When children are young, they need to have a safe space where they can ask questions about sex without being judged. As youth age, they should continue having open discussions about sexual health. These discussions can come from health teachers, parents, or even peers. Young adults should be given enough information so that they can make responsible decisions regarding their sex lives. Youth and sex In many countries, sex education isn't mandatory and in others, it's taught in an

Equality In Education

Image
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." — Nelson Mandela The issue of global education is often spoken about, but not always well understood. Many other countries do not have adequate resources for their educational systems, nor do they have the resources to provide for the well-being of their children. In today's day and age, almost every country has recognized the importance of providing good quality education for all children as a means of improving their economic status and also improving relationships between different regions of their country and also with other nations in general. But despite this widespread agreement that educational equality is important, there are still many children who do not have access to high-quality educational facilities. The lack of proper facilities could be due to the lack of funding available for schools in India or it could be due to poor materials being used to construct facilities or even a

Importance Of Social Emotional Learning

Image
Defining Emotional Intelligence Emotional intelligence (EQ) refers to the ability to identify emotions in one's self as well as others; to access or generate feelings when needed; to understand the use of feelings for self-regulation; to appreciate the role of feelings in interpersonal relationships, and to manage emotions in ways that improve personal interactions. Social-Emotional Learning – The Importance Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the ability to recognize, understand and manage emotions, develop meaningful relationships and make responsible decisions. SEL is a set of skills that helps students better cope with stressors (such as bullying), build positive relationships, develop healthy self-esteem, manage anger and create pro-social behavior. Social-emotional learning helps students learn in the classroom and beyond. Research shows that students who have higher social-emotional skill levels tend to do better in school; graduate at higher rates; have more positive peer

How Technology Has Changed Education?

Image
It is clear that technology has changed education, and that's a good thing. As kids become more tech-savvy, teachers are better equipped with technology to keep pace with them. Technology is making education a globally more connected experience. It seems as if every day brings new developments in the world of technology. We're able to access information on virtually any topic instantly from computers and smartphones. In many ways, this is great for education — especially for younger students — since they're exposed to information that used to be hard to find or was only available in books. The number of young people who use the Internet has grown tremendously over the past decade, according to the Pew Research Center. In 2000, less than half of U.S. teenagers had access to computers at home and 6 percent used cell phones; by 2010, 93 percent of teens had home computer access and 84 percent had cell phone access. This explosion of technology in daily life has created a who

Which are the top and inexpensive schools in India?

Education is a fundamental right of every citizen; the benefits of such a right are immense. Education helps in eradicating poverty, eliminating corruption, the disintegration of gender inequalities, and the empowerment of women. With the right kind of education, a person can eliminate hunger from his life, end powerlessness and raise himself to a high level of dignity. The current public system is inadequate, there's a shortage of quality teachers, staff, and out-of-date infrastructure. Education has become an expensive affair. Irrespective of whether you are looking at an elementary, secondary, or college education, it all adds up at the end of the day. As education now isn't limited to academics, a school needs to have provisions for extracurricular activities for their students. The best schools in India however are not always the most expensive ones. So here are the best inexpensive schools in India. Mother's International School, Delhi Founded in 1952, Mother’s Int

Sainik Schools in India

What are schools in India like

Image
Schools have been an important part of the culture for almost as long as people have existed. In many ancient civilizations, schools were very formal. Schools were considered a place to learn how to become a better citizen, prepare for military life, pursue the priesthood and so much more. Schools in India are a crucial part of Indian society and education. The schools are not only responsible for the teaching and nurturing of intellectual, emotional, and physical growth of students, but also play an important role in their moral development. India's education system is based on the "10+2+3 plan" which requires 10 years of schooling, 2 years of junior college, and 3 years of degree in a university. Both the central government and the state government play a significant role in the overall infrastructure of these institutions. Private schools are run by individuals, organizations, or trusts and are mostly privately funded. Government schools are mostly run by the state

What is STEM Education and it is the future

Image
STEM education is an emerging concept that defines a new approach, which deals with teaching and learning traditionally science subjects by a scientific and technological approach. STEM is an educational approach that teaches science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by integrating these academic disciplines as well as design, problem-solving and critical thinking skills It's a way of teaching students the skills they need to solve problems, understand ideas, and make things happen in the world around them. It helps students understand that science is more than lab coats and test tubes, technology isn't just computers and programming, engineering isn't just bridge building or car design and mathematics isn't simply adding and subtracting. As per survey done by international schools in India , STEM education brings cutting-edge topics into the classroom and empowers students to use them to solve relevant real-world problems in their communities.
