Top Educational Applications For Students

Top Educational Applications For Students

2020 has been very testing so far. Everyone is trying to cope up with changes that no one would have imagined happening. Technology has accelerated this coping process and has proved its purpose of making life more comfortable. Students and educators have adapted faster than anyone to the current changes.

I'll list some of the top apps which are highly recommended by the Indian’s top schools and admission consultants that have been of great use for students in these trying times.

Google Classroom

The Classroom is one of the most used tools by students. One of the main advantages of the Classroom is the ability to integrate it with all of Google's apps. It is incredible to realize how productive it can be when used with Google Meet, Keep Notes, Docs, and Drive. It becomes a powerhouse of a classroom and boosts the productivity of a class as a whole.

Notion

The Notion is an excellent app for organizing and managing tasks. This may be the understatement of the century. It truly is the 'all-in-one-workspace' as advertised. You can take notes, manage team assignments, make to-do lists, set reminders, and the list goes on. One of my favorite features in Notion is that you can embed anything into your notes. The amount of customization that you can add to your workspace in Notion is endless. This brings out your creative side and makes your workspace unique.

Forest

Forest can easily be the single best app to fight the habit of procrastination. Simply put, it is a timer that doesn't allow you to use other apps on your phone until the timer runs out. A virtual tree is planted whenever you start a Forest session. It grows throughout the session into a tree, and you can create a virtual forest by gaining a lot of trees. However, the plant withers when you open other apps during a forest session, adding dead trees to your forest. The selling point here is that the app team has collaborated with Trees for the Future organization and allows users to plant real trees for a certain amount of virtual coins earned by successful Forest sessions. It also allows users to add friends and leaderboards. Some of these features are limited to the pro version of the app.

XMind

XMind is used to create mind maps. Studies have shown that visual learning is the best way to acquire and store information. For those who believe in visual learning, this app should be a serious consideration. It has a lot of themes and customization options along with a highly functional and intuitive UI. I recommend using this on a laptop or desktop, as the keyboard shortcuts are handy. It also gives an option to export mind maps as pictures, which can be advantageous to share with friends. It is also straightforward to print mind maps, and XMind gives an option to exclude/include backgrounds based on our printing preference easily.

Khan Academy

This app is a must-have for all students. Whenever you find a concept troubling, Khan Academy always manages to give a clear and concise explanation. Most of the mainstream subjects are covered. They explain things using short videos and good animations which a lot of students find it easy to understand. Even complex concepts like calculus and advanced biology are neatly defined. The apps for Android and iOS are beneficial to learn on the go.

edX

This is a platform for college students to get open online courses provided by leading universities. Everything is free to learn in this app, but you have to pay a small price to get a certification. edX has made it possible for students from remote locations to gain access to the lectures of some of the best professors from top universities. The teaching process is entirely online, and the courses are filled with a lot of assignments and tests. All these are graded, and it can be used to track our progress. This app is for students who are self-motivated and have a passion for learning.

These apps are in no particular order, and the opinions provided here are purely based on my personal experience.

Hope you find this useful!
